The Values of Daventry Baptist Church

If someone were to ask us what Daventry Baptist Church is all about, we would answer by high-lighting the following three values. These are not necessarily areas that we excel in, but they are what we are aiming at and those things that Daventry Baptist cherishes. You could say that they are the DNA of DBC:

  1. Passion and participation in worship
  2. Growing up and reaching out in small groups
  3. Loving our neighbours in word and deed

Passion and participation in worship

We aim to be a people of praise. Bible passages such as Ephesians 1:3-14 and 1 Peter 2:9-10 teach us that the Church's primary calling is to glorify the God of grace. This is true of each and every Christian, regardless of age, gender or musical ability!

According to 1 Corinthians 14:26, we all have something to contribute to the worship of the church. Whether on a Sunday morning, in our house groups, or in our daily lives, we aim to create opportunities for each and every person to glorify God.

Growing up and reaching out in small groups

As a church we put a great amount of emphasis upon small groups. Whether these are called "home groups", "cell groups", "care groups", or "house churches," we believe they are essential for the growth of Christian disciples.

Reaching others with the good news of Jesus is not an optional extra for anyone claiming to follow Christ (see Matthew 28:18-20). Given the nature of life in Daventry, which is very "estate-minded," we are aiming to reach the town through small groups committed to their individual estates.

Loving our neighbours in word and deed

Jesus taught us that the most important thing God asks us to do is love Him and love those around us (see Luke 10:25-37). Elsewhere, the Bible tells us that God is love (1 John 4:8), so we most clearly reflect what God is like when we show love towards others. In fact, considering the love that God has shown us, we are most like God when we love those who may not appear to deserve our love, or who can not promise to show us love in return.

Francis of Assisi once said, "Preach the gospel; if necessary, use words." In this way, we can see that our three values all stem from the same root. We aim to declare the grace and glory of God (worship) by showing others the good news of Jesus (growing up and reaching out) through our self-less love.
